"Speak a Volcano" Reviewing this DVD for perhaps the fourth time. Forgive the repetition.
This is a great work. I always pick up something different. Some deserve repetition, but not as much as "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN." So we are not in danger of boredom.
When you associate an artist so closely with an instrument, one has to take notice. DiMeola was introduced to me by kimosabe Neil back in 1984. DiMeola played electric Les Paul then and an obscure acoustic guitar by the name of Ovation. It was a round back thing with a big hole in front with a cord coming out of it in the back.
On this relatively recent DVD (2007), DiMeola revives this great work and devotion to the instrument. Hard to describe unless you have been there. No one pulls a guitar string like he does. We should all take lessons.
Saw DiMeola play last year at the Count Basie in NJ, he is overdue for new material.
