OK, More is needed I realize. Bigoted Korean War curmudgeon from Detroit is surrounded by Hmong immigrants and various minority gangs. His wife of many years dies and he is forced to confront some new realities in his "Golden years." Issues of religion, suspicion, tradition, breakdown of the American family and general American upheaval are all sub-plots. And some really good Hmong / Southeast Asian food!
The genius of the film is in the character and story development. This was written, produced and directed by Eastwood. He even had a hand in WRITING some of the music.
No explosions, but some gunfire, so Marty, you might like this. Not the usual "feel good movie of the summer." Came out in 2008. Got thru Netflix. They sent TWO defective discs and replaced them but I think is might be deliberate attempt to turn us all to streaming. The Technology is not there yet to allow the freedom to watch a movie over a few days say, via Apple TV. I don't want to fund Verizon forever by renting a DVR they will rope me into endless agreements for. To quote Mel Gibson from Braveheart, "FREEDOM!"
