SONY Stores Midtown

I was at the SONY Center in Midtown NYC last night and visited the two SONY STORES at that location.  It is a confused operation to say the least.  Picture in your mind's eye, um, let say an APPLE STORE.  Bustling, CROWDED, lots of tablets like iPADS advertising the OTHER toys like iPODS.  Vanquish that thought.

Think a dusty museum, think Best Buy on a slow day.  The two SONY stores had some of the same equipment like point and shoot cameras, the biggest genre of consumer electronics in decline due to the iPhones. The Tablets were not charged so you could not play with them.  You could not listen to all the headphones because the MP3 players weren't charged.  SONY music featured section had NO HEADPHONES or ability to listen.  Hmmm.

You are not greeted by smiling folks in recognizable t-shirts holding iPADS.  No Genius Bar Equivalent, No One-to-One Learning, no Theater featuring free seminars on learning the software.  And the bathrooms are dirty.  Apple's are not.  The best part is that there is a STARBUCKS inside the south side store.  Total management failure.   As they say, "you decide."
